About The Author
CK Rochester
CK Rochester is a versatile professional who has extensive experience in the field of entrepreneurship, equestrianism, yoga, and literature. Since she spent over twenty-five years in the financial industry as an investment banker, hedge-fund manager, and consultant, she founded Capital Resources, Inc. in the 1990s. After retiring, she shifted her attention to competitive equestrian sport and yoga, for which she later became certified as an instructor. The idea of the piece was firmly informed by the temporal concessions of the COVID-19 pandemic, as Rochester went about the process of writing a deeply personal story mirroring the love story of her parents, her father an American and her mother a Japanese, against the backdrop of post-World War II Japan. She was born in a Turkish military hospital in the United States, and she is now living on her farm in Virginia with her husband and her pets.
THE NOVEL
Unspoken
“Unspoken” by Catherine Rochester provides a deep insight into the theme of family and individual strength in the mobile environment of Tokyo. The story begins with Tomi, who, despite all the commotion in the background of an earthquake, values keeping a family treasure, and thus, the weight of the heritage and the responsibility often lies on the shoulders of older siblings. As Tomi and her younger sister, Chieko, face life’s challenges in a metropolis that is likely to experience physical and symbolic seismic shocks, this is the central element of the story. The writer depicts her characters’ emotional landscape, fears, hopes, and the unbreakable connection they share. Although Tomi has to deal with her fears and a desire to keep her loved ones safe, the reader must consider the general themes of strength and frailty. Rochester’s narrative is very authentic and makes “Unspoken” more than a survival story; it is a tribute to the strength of family love and the perseverance of the human spirit.
